The University of Applied Management Studies Mannheim (HdWM), REAL CORP and VisionEducation are only too happy to announce a new promising partnership. HdWM’s research focus, co-operations and practice orientation are a very good basis for interdisciplinary projects combining management competences with urban digitalisation and sustainability themes.
Smart City related practice-orientated projects are an integral part of HdWM’s research activities shown by its continuous participation in EU-funded research projects, such as the DevOps – Competences for Smart Cities project which aimed to empower Smart City administrators, consultants and Managers with relevant Smart City and IT related knowledge as well as relevant transversal skills. Moreover, HdWM was a co-organiser of the very well received 29th international REAL CORP Conference in Mannheim, a German leading Smart City. Some best papers of this conference are currently being published as a guest edition of the journal Progress in Industrial Ecology.
Its contextual and interdisciplinary nexus between traditional management, entrepreneurship and startups, sociology and psychology, reflected in respective BA and Master studies in both German and English predestines HdWM to co-develop urban and regional ecologically and socially sustainable solutions. In this context, its “twin relationship” with the IB University of Applied Sciences for Health and Social Sciences in Berlin further enhances its sociological and psychological expertise. This ideally complements REAL CORP’s and VisionEducation’s skills portfolio. In addition to this tripartite competence pool, the faculty of HdWM disposes of longstanding expert knowledge for idiosyncratic challenges of transitional settings and ideally complements REAL CORP’s and VisionEducation’s skills portfolio in this respect. Latter is mirrored, for example, by HdWM’s Shared Value Lab Africa (https://www.hdwm.de/en/studyinternationally/shared-value-lab-africa/) launched by HdWM’s Vice President for International Relations, Prof. Dr. Dolores Sanchez Bengoa. As a member in many local (i.e. Network Smart Industries in the Metropolitan Region Rhine Neckar) and other global networks with companies and universities, HdWM is excellently connected. This facilitates access to partners and data for empirical research. Noteworthy, since 2022, the University of Applied Management Studies Mannheim closely co-operates with the CEMOS Institute of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Mannheim synergizing economic and management-oriented perspectives with technical and engineering approaches. Examples include common projects on intelligent sensors for measuring air quality and health data, AI-powered apps for route optimization, and sustainable urban technologies.
In short: HdWM offers a combination of interdisciplinary management expertise, applied research, strong collaborations and international networking, as well as strong EU project experience – promising ingredients for the partnership with REAL CORP and VisionEducation.
